Marine Conservation Society training

Our Volunteer Beach Clean Leaders spent a morning on a training course delivered by Matt Barnes and assisted by Niamh from the Marine Conservation Society.

They are now fully trained and set up to conduct their own marine litter surveys which are vital to gather important information on the state of our beaches.

We surveyed a 100m x 20m stretch on Crimdon beach and logged 791 items in 1 hour!

If you are interested in becoming a Volunteer Beach Clean Leader please contact louise.harrington@durham.gov.uk OR if you want to find out more about becoming a Beachwatch Volunteer and collecting data for the Marine Conservation Society please visit https://www.mcsuk.org/

We’ll be inviting Matt back later in the year to run another course.
