August saw the return of our ‘Reading the Rocks’ walks and talks with Professor Dave Roberts from the University of Durham.
Following circular walking routes along the coast from Easington to Hawthorn Hive beaches, and then Blackhall Rocks beach to Castle Eden Denemouth, Dave talked us through the formation of this incredible coastline and the role that former ice ages have played in sculpting the cliffs and denes that we know so well.
Highlights included the 200,000 – 250,000 year-old beach at the clifftop in Shippersea Bay, and learning more about the Stromatolite dome structures at Blackhall Rocks.
There will be one more Reading the Rocks talk for this year which will take place online on Thursday 22nd September at 7pm. Please keep an eye on our events page for soon-to-be-announced further details.
