Sound Collage Walk – Hendon Beach

Join us for a Sound Collage Walk, using your ears to explore and connect with the coastline at Hendon Beach.

Join Louise, Hayley and Dorinda, the ‘BeTheSea’ team to learn how to connect to the coastal seascape using sound as your primary sense.

We will meet at Hendon Beach, learning skills in acoustic ecology, deep listening and field recording, as we walk along the upper beach and promenade.

The ‘BeTheSea’ project centres around three methods to foreground listening:

Attunement: field-recording activities that zone in on the non-human sounds of the coastal seascape through listening and recording.

Resonance: deep listening activities and voice/instrumental activities that use imaginative and creative strategies to develop an empathic and reflective relationship with the coastal seascape.

Resilience: sound collage activities leading to a publication and composition that engenders ongoing stewardship of the coastal seascape.

BeTheSea is a collaborative project by artist-in-residence, Louise Mackenzie and composer Hayley Jenkins, commissioned by SeaAIR, and Durham Wildlife Trust’s Dorinda Kealoha, part of SeaScapes Co/Lab the creative engagement project for SeaScapes: Tyne to Tees Shores to Seas.
