SeaScapes is excited to present the second in a series of walks and talks for the ‘Reading the Rocks’ Project in partnership with Durham University and Magnesian.
Come and join the BlueScapes and Reading the Rocks teams with geologists, Simon Hendry and Dave Roberts from Durham University, at Souter Lighthouse on Tuesday 7th September.
The walk and talk will last 3 hours and provide an introduction to the Permian period of earth’s history and recount the story of how this part of the North East coastline was affected by a closing ocean, formed part of a continent-wide desert and was flooded by the Zechstein Sea.
This event will involve walking along Marsden Leas, down the steps to Marsden Bay and walking across stony and rocky beach / shore at Marsden and Trow Point.
Participants are advised to wear suitable outdoor clothing/footwear and bring refreshments.The event is free to attend, however booking is essential via the Eventbrite link below due to the limited number of places.
