SeaScapes Butterfly Count

Join us as we undertake a Butterfly count along the East Durham Coast.

The coastal clifftops and meadows are home to an array of butterflies and day-time moths. Butterflies are a vital part of the ecosystem both as pollinators and components of the food chain. However, butterflies are under threat and a decline in butterflies can be an early warning sign for other wildlife losses.

In collaboration with the National Trust Rangers based at White Lea Farm, we’re undertaking a Butterfly Count along Easington Beach Banks.

A Butterfly Count helps track numbers of butterflies and is crucial in helping to conserve our natural world. No previous experience is required, so if you love nature and want to help spot and count our local butterflies please come along.

This event is part of the ‘Our Coast, Our Wildlife’ project being run by The National Trust and is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Please wear weather appropriate clothing and footwear for outdoor activities. Equipment will be provided.
