Guided Wildlife and Nesting Bird Walk – 29th May 2024

As part of the SeaScapes’ Coastal Partnership Event join us for a bird walk.

COAST will be leading 1.5-hour of bird walk. While we can’t guarantee what we will see, perhaps: purple sandpiper, ringed plover, turnstone, knots, dunlin, curlew, oystercatcher and redshank.

That said, you never know when a rarity might show up…

SeaScapes is presenting a celebration of the coast Tyne to Tees. The aim of this event is to bring communities together to learn and access their coastline at South Shields and Whitburn. This is an all-age event with a range of activities including nest trail, games, crafts, sports, nature walks and interactive presentation promoting stall holders’ project. This is a partnership event including SeaScapes internal partners National Trust, Durham Wildlife Trust and Newcastle University; and external partners Stronger Shores, COAST South Shields and COAST Sunderland.

All set on the backdrop of Souter Lighthouse and The Leas. This is a free event. Please feel free to participate in as much or little as you would like. This activity will be taking place outdoors. Please ensure that you have warm & dry clothing and suitable footwear.

Other activities happening during the day include:

  • 10:30 Whitburn Coastal Conservation Centre Opens – find inside stall holders, games, crafts and wave tank
  • 13:00 – 15:00 Beach Clean at Jackies Beach (please meet at Whitburn Coastal Conservation Centre)
  • 15:30 Whitburn Coastal Conservation Centre closes
