Coastal Bird Walk – Whitburn

Join local bird expert Keith Bowey for a guided walk at Whitburn, and discover the coastal birds visiting our shores this winter.

Winter shorebird migration is an annual spectacle, and a reminder of how important our coast is for shorebird conservation. We are ready to help you learn all about it — and enjoy it in the process.

What might you see if you join us for a walk? If you’re lucky you may see sanderlings, purple sandpipers, golden plovers, ringed plovers, turnstones, knots, dunlins, curlew, oystercatchers, redshank, snow buntings and more. Those are the usual suspects, though you never know when a rarity might show up!

For this walk we will be entirely outdoors, so please wear warm and waterproof clothing and outdoor suitable footwear with good grips.

If you have binoculars please bring them, we will have some available to borrow too.

Booking essential.

This is a SeaScapes Coastal Wildlife Group event, hosted by Durham Wildlife Trust and funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
