Skills for Bike Riding – Session for children aged 8-11.

Is you child getting a new bike for Christmas, or do they just need to refresh their cycling skills? Come to beautiful Souter Lighthouse where they can improve their skills under the watchful eye of our instructor!

All cycles need to be in tip-top, road-worthy condition. We like to use the ‘ABCDs’ of cycle maintenance to check this:

• AIR – Have your tyres got enough air?

• BRAKES – Do the front and back brakes work properly?

• CHAIN – Have you oiled it recently?

• DIRECTION – Are your handlebars fixed on tight? Is your seat on tight and pointing forward?

If you can answer yes to the ABCDs then you are good to go!

Are you looking at your child’s bike and don’t know where to start with these checks?

Lots of first-time cyclists need a helping hand with this so don’t worry, you are not alone. Just take your cycle to a local shop.

The on the day of your bike skills session, the instructor will check each bike before riding. Unfortunately, if your bike is unroadworthy, you won’t be able to take part.

Helmets and warm comfortable clothes must be worn.

This event is part of the SeaScapes BlueScapes project run by The National Trust and is funded by the National Lottery Heritage fund.
