Coastal Sound Lab: Coast at War Talk with Tees Archaeology

17th June 2024

Our North East coastline has long been a target for invasion and bombardment. Much of this history has left little trace; but standing coastal defence structures like the Fulwell Sound Mirror help tell the story of World War 1 in unique and facinating ways.

Join Emma Watson, Team Leader Lead Archaeologist at Tees Archaeology, as she takes us through the history of sound mirrors and the reasons for their creation.

About

Dr Emma Watson started life as a languages teacher before researching archaeology at Durham University, to focus upon the neglect of the prehistory of northern England.
Tees Archaeology’s mission is to work with the people and organisations of the Tees Valley in order to raise awareness of the Historic Environment, to ensure its protection for future generations and improve its accessibility and enjoyment. TA hold the archives for the Tees Valley and deliver community projects in and around the region.
