Are you aged 14-18? Interested in learning more about our coast and the wildlife that can be found there? Do you want to take action to help protect it? Then come to our monthly Beach Rangers sessions! 

Autumn is when migrating birds from Scandinavia, Greenland, Russia and the arctic arrive on our shores to feed during winter months. We will take a trip to Crimdon beach, where we will go for a coastal bird walk, to discover the species that can be found there. We’ll discuss where they’ve come from and why they migrate; you’ll learn what to look out and listen for, and how to recognise different species. 

We will also work with a local artist to create our own coastal bird collages to take home. 

We meet at 10am at Roker Pier in Sunderland, but if you would prefer to meet us at 10.45am at Crimdon Beach please let us know. 

Please wear warm, weather appropriate clothing, sturdy boots/footwear and bring a packed lunch and drink. 

BOOKING IS ESSENTIAL 

The Beach Rangers are young volunteers aged 14-18 who usually meet on the fourth Saturday each month. Activities include rocky shore surveys, beach cleans, seabird walks, practical conservation tasks, wildlife photography, marine mammal surveys, underwater filming and more. We will also investigate how the coastline has changed with industry and development, and how people and wildlife can coexist sharing the coastal environment. The sessions encourage team working and problem solving. Perfect if you love nature or being outdoors, and a great way to achieve your Duke of Edinburgh or John Muir Awards.
