Busy Bees on the Durham Heritage Coast

It was a bee-autiful sunny day at Crimdon for our Royal (Queen Bee) Ramble! We found Queens from six different bumblebee species, plus seven other pollinators, including the bee fly.

One participant said “Thanks Rachel and Dee for leading a very informative and well led talk and walk this morning for all ages and abilities…we learnt so much about not just the Bees but the plants they thrive on . A great starting point at the Dunes, Crimdon. We were straight home to let the dogs out and found our plum tree surrounded by at least 6 hungry bees … we think they’re buff-tailed bumblebees from our chart”.

They were indeed buff-tailed bumblebees, hungry Queens stocking up for the summer ahead.
